Young Mini Horses Cheap?

We recently visited a farm and saw that they were advertising miniature horses for sale-and they were horribly cheap. They started at $500 for the very young-three months old.

How common is that kind of pricing? Could there be problems with the breeding line, only it seems too cheap.

$500 isn't horribly cheap actually. It might even be a tad pricey for am mini without proven show lines and/or unusual color. You can easily buy a foal for $1k for a regular sized horse while its still young and has growing to do and training needed. Once it starts hitting its adult form and getting trained more (and possibly racking up show wins in handling/confirmation) the price will start going up. With the price of hay going up I can usually find minis for $200-300 and horses for $500-700 easy.

I agree, even a search on dreamhorse.com will turn up a handful of pretty nice minis for $500. Which means local listings on craigslist will net you even cheaper horses most likely. Bloodlines are only as good as the show wins in them. Everything else is debatable, but a judge's decision or a registration says they meet a current standard.

Its possible what you think is cheap is not as pointed out above. Also I know sometimes issues can happen where someone wants their horse/s going to a good home and a lower price most times gets people in quicker for the sale.

I thought they'd cost more, too

I have never really seen minis or known anyone who has them. Is there any differences between their care and full-size horses? Will full-sized horses interact normally with the mini? I have an extra stall and have been debating finding another horse but I may consider a mini, too.

I've noticed the price of horses and verious farm type animals going way down the past 6 months - 1 year. Grain has gotten so expensive that it's really hard for people to afford to feed them. That's really sad to have to sell an animal because you can't feed it properly, but that is definitely better than letting them starve to death.
