Clicker Training

I was reading about clicker training the other day in an article sent to me by a friend and thought it sounded brilliant. Has anyone had any experience using this with horses? Is it really as easy as it sounds and does it really work as well as it seems to?

No, I don't know of this. There is some memory in the deep dark depths of my memory where I think I saw this in a film.

Can someone elaborate on this? How does one start it? What does it involve?

I think the basics are that you have a little clicker device in your hand, and you teach the horse to associate the click with a reward. That way when you're doing something like looking at its feet, you cal click to let the horse know that standing still and not trying to kick is good, and it will get a reward soon.

That does seem like a good idea, but I worry that either you loose the clicker or it breaks if that will throw the horse off and will just go back to bad habits or not.
