Locals

I seen tons of places on TV that deal with awareness, but where can I find one local to me? What should I be looking for. I can find all types of shelters for cats and dogs, but when it comes to the bigger animals I'm at a stump in the road it seems.

Look for your local Agriculture Department, the county one. They will have information for you, including 4H groups that work with horses. These are great if you have children!

Try asking around at the local dog/cat shelter. you'd be surprised how much they know about other species even if they don't have any at the moment. I know my local SPCA takes everything from mice to horses and usually has a variety of animals.

I think I am going to try the same, I work with local schools to help setup educational field trips for the elementary schools in this area. 4H is not something I think this state is aware of, or maybe they closed down? Not sure, but I am going to look it up, thanks for the help!

Our spca has foster homes for larger animals. They deal with the cruelty aspects of all animals, not just small pets. These horses are then adopted out to loving homes.

Is there a national charity that you could donate to, that the money would then be spread to all the local chapters? I have yet to find one myself, so anyone with some info let me know.
