which products come from horses?

I heard a rumor that glue is made from something that comes from horses, but I can't remember which. There is also an estrogen pill that is made from their pee. What other products did horses contribute to?

Glue used to be made with horse but isn't anymore. PMU is what you're thinking of for the pee. It makes premarin. My mom used to take it.

Horse hair used to be used for stiches and badminton rackets. And tooth brushes. But I don't think they're used much anymore.

I heard once that something from horses was put into Chapstick. I'm not sure if what that something is or if that's even true. I hope not because I am addicted to strawberry chapstick.

I have never heard the chapstick one but I did remember the one for horse hair with tennis rackets. Then again thats still when I was in high school and that was over ten years ago, don't they know just use some type of plastic?

I thought that tennis rackets were horse gut, not hair? The glue was also made from cows-they use the bones I believe, boiled down. Gelatin was also got in this way.

Horse gut is used, or rather was as there is now a synthetic alternative, as well as the traditional, as the anchor for the strings on a violin. Horse hair also is used for the bow, it's what you play with.

I play violin in my spare time. Nowadays they don't use horse gut for the anchoring, but you do still use horsehair in the bow.

I know premarin is made from horse urine, I think progesterone supplements are made too, from pregnant horse urine? I could be wrong on that though.

Now that is just the nastiest thing I have ever heard of. I do not take an oral birth control and am now incredibly happy that I don't! Are there any other pills made from horse pee that I should avoid?!

Premarin isn't birth control its a hormone replacement for women going through menopause (and doesn't always work anyway).

Glue was made from the hooves of horses but hasn't in ages as chemicals are cheaper and more animal friendly. Never heard of the chapstick thing, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

There is still tack that is made using horsehair (braided or tasseled) as well as crops and flyswatters used by fancy people.

Some brushes for shoe polishing are made from horse hairs. I think this product won't hurt the horse for it's taken when their hair are too long already.

Another product that could be made from horses are leathers. But I'm not sure which country do allow horse hides to be made as horse leathers.

Yes whilst it is true that there is an alternative for the violin tailpiece anchor, it isn't always used. I can almost guarantee you that the big musicians still use the real thing.
