Where did you buy your horse?

Well, assuming you DO own one anyway

In my case, my uncle gave me Turbo for free! He's a horsebreeder, but he couldn't charge his own nephew I guess!

I bought Silver Bullet off a breeder, but he gave me a good price. Hmm...I wonder if we have any breeders who visit this site?

My aunt had a foal that she gave to me. I named her Suzy. She is my second daughter.

There are many places to buy a horse and I have done a lot of the:

1) Auctions - I have bought horses from an auction and have got horses that are unsound and not a good buy. It is important to get a vet check before purchasing.

2) A private party - I have had good luck with this route because I can get a vet check.

3) Classifieds - You have to take your time with this route because there are many horses that aren't good. You can get a vet check, but I have had them fail at this stage.

4) Family - This is the worse situation. If you get a horse from family you will have the horse until the day you die.

Take your time and look at many horses.

The last barn I rode at we mostly got our horses from private sales. While some people are looking to sell off their bad apple, we normally dealt with a few trustworthy individuals so we knew what we were getting into. We also got a few from the track up the road that people gave up on. Nice enough horses, but dang they had some of the weirdest hangups of any horse I've ever met.

Pumpkin came from a breed auction. Not the same as the mixed ones, this one was restricted to certain breeders of ponies. Thus we got a nice pony from a reputable breeder who was more than willing to answer all our questions and help with anything we needed.
My mom's horse came from a classified ad on Dreamhorse.

We got my daughter's horse from an online ad. We lucked out, she has turned into a very nice one. My daughter was able to break her and teach her some tricks as well.We have since tried to buy horses from online .It isn't always easy to buy them that way, as deals fall through more often than not. Also you may have to drive a distance to see the horse .We also had one given to her becasue she was 20 and needing someone to give her a good home. My daughter has gotten a great friend in this horse.A perfect horse if ever there was one.

I got my Baby from a horse agency. He was a problem horse and he was seen as dangerous.
That's why he was not very expensive only 7000 €, he is very well educated, but with the wrong funds.
Now were on the way to a harmonic feeling.
He was worth it!

I hope there are not too many mistakes

I got my mare from an online auction and I got my stallion from a riding school that was going out of business. The mare was a problem at first because I believe she was abused but now she is my gentlest baby. The stallion was very good, the school only went out of business because the owner died and none of her family was interested in continuing it.

What about retired race horses We have a few farms here that raise race horses and sell the retired ones. Would this be a good idea or are they too high strung for pleasure riding?

A friend of mine breeds horses, and he was so kind to cut me a break.

Since horses are not exactly cheap, I would advise the same to anyone else who is interested in horses. Even if you don't know a horse breeder, meet one and have him/her help you out!

I don't own one, but I know of two desperate people that do. Once purchased from a private seller here local to our town. The second found hers through some type of local paper for horse updates (her daughters have some) and she found someone through there that had to sell about 10, so she got 1.

What about getting a rescue horse? Can they be good companoins or is the risk too high that they'll have behavioural problems that can't be fixed. I'd love to give a rescue horse a good home.
