Does anyone know any tips for putting weight on an older horse. My daughter has a TWH that is about 23 years old. She is underweight. We bought her senior food and had the vet float her teeth but she still is under weight though.

Have you had blood tests done? Feeding more isn't always enough to keep weight on a horse. Worming, floating teeth and checking for other problems using blood tests will also help determine the actual problem. Working with your vet determine how much to feed and what to feed, including what type of hay (it has different nutritional values) should help as well as time.

No, we have not had blood tests done. We have had her wormed though and the teeth floated and some good weight building feed for her.I was wondering if it is just her age but she looks a bit under weight to me.
Thanks for the advice. |

You might want to try SA injection or Jurocyl Injection, both from NatureVet. Ask your Vet, it can be ordered here http://www.horsemedsonline.com/index.php?cPath=49
