What Type of Flooring?

I've been at alot of stables and worked at others or visited just for a show and they all use different types of flooring and bedding to offer what they feel is the best for the animal. Some of the most popular seem to be dirt, wood, and rubber mats. Which do you think is the best, and is there a reason?

I like wood. Rubber mats tend to wear out quickly and Dirt is just, well, dirty lol. For bedding I use straw as it's fairly reasonably priced. I don't think there is just one good type though. It all depends on preference.

I think that it also depends on the area that you are in. Drier areas would not have such a huge problem with dirt floors, where as here that would just be awful.

Personally I am fond of wood.

I too use straw. I find it affordable and agreeable. The horses don't seem to mind and it is easy to clean the stalls out.

I thought most were dirt with straw for bedding? I can't imagine having to clean out stalls with rubber mats. Though, now that I think of that, I've seen those at the fairs when the animals are on concrete.

I have seen recycled rubber mats before that help out but they are not used in the stalls more for the walking from stall to the doorway of the stable. I love the idea that so many places are going green now and if it is easier on a horse or any other animal then by all means.
