What do you feed your horse?

Since I don't have a horse yet, I can't answer directly, but I overheard someone saying they fed their horse hay and water twice per day , sometimes they add some molasses and canola oil. Is that a healthy enough diet for horses?

My horses are mostly grass fed, but what you described sounds good as well. I know some people feed their horses grain. Also, you should remember that depending on the activity level of your horse they may need more or less feeding.

Our horse is grassfed also. During the winter somethimes we give alfalfa hay and ocassionally grain. Oh yeah and the occassional treats-mostly apples.

Frannie eats grass mostly during spring/summer/fall, but in the winter we supplement with alfalfa. She gets a carrot or apple daily (cleans the teeth), and has access to a mineral lick.

What's the molasses for? Pooping?
