riding with a cast
My daughter fell and broke her ankle recently, and though now she is in a foot and ankle cast, it is different weight than she normally was used to riding with. I am worried that her horse may react differently to the change in weight. She is a great rider, and liked riding bareback more than with a saddle. The cast won't let her use the stirrups, so she's begging to go bareback. This worries me a bit. Anyone done this before? I do not want to put her or her horse in danger.

Did you check with doctor?
Make sure you check with the doctor before allowing any kind of riding. The position of her leg over the horse and the pull of the weight of the cast could make the bone heal incorrectly. The jouncing, especially bareback, could make things even worse.

That is true. He thought she may be able to fit the cast into the stirrups, but it didnt work. And, he said this morning, no bareback
When she gets back to riding, i've also heard the breakaway stirrups may help? Has anyone used them? |
