Warrenty or Insurance?

I know when you adopt an animal from the SPCA they have about a month of health insurance for all pets they take care of, and you can arrange to have this extended once you take claim of the animal. Does this work the same for horses?

In my experience a vet visit is usually included in the purchase price, or you can negotiate down. I've never gotten a "warranty" though. All pet insurance I've seen is private.

I thought a warrenty was like a guarantee that it will work for X years or you can have it replaced?

I think some thoroughbreds get sold with a return clause like that if they turn out to be wobblers or wind suckers, so that the purchaser can return them.

I know lots of dogs come with certificates for hips, eyes, etc these days. I don't think the SPCA is likely to be giving out anything except perhaps the insurance as they really can't know all that much about the horses most times, and its pretty common knowledge that you accept the animal as is with no warranty or gaurantee of health.

I've seen thoroughbreds that were sold with complete Xray sets of all their leg joints as a kind of warranty. There's lots at stake with those yearlings.
