Volunteering opportunities?

I've found several equine rescue organizations in my area. I'm thinking of seeing if there are volunteering opportunities at any of these groups. This would help me learn about and get comfortable with horses plus be helping a wonderful cause. Does anyone have any experience in this? I used to volunteer at a local cat rescue so I thought perhaps this would be a possibility but I'm not sure if they want people who aren't familiar with horses.

I think they probably need the help so much they won't care that you aren't totally farmilliar. All you need is love. Give them a call. The worst they can say is no.

I volunteered alot over the years, as did my mom (a non-horse person, lol). Many of these organizations have different things you can help with based on your knowledge and comfort level. You could help with the horses, clean tack, or make phone calls and update paperwork depending on your abilities. It all needs done at the end of the day and you can progress from one task to the next as you get used to the horses and learn how to do things. A willing nature is the most important thing for a volunteer to have.

Thanks purplefdu

I was hoping for someone with a little experience to respond. Your comments make me feel much less uncomfortable with volunteering. I was afraid that they would laugh at me or not want me because of my inexpertise (not sure if that's a real word...lol).
