Ugh - the prices at the grocery store!

It's bad enough that the cost of feed and hay is going up but the cost of people food is killing me. Every time I go to the grocery store, the prices have gone up more. This is absolutely crazy lately with gas going up over the course of the day (saw it rise .10 cents yesterday from morning to evening). If they don't do something about the economy soon, we're going to see a lot more homeless as well as overburdened food banks.

I can sympathize. With all the flooding in the midwest these past couple weeks I'm concerned prices will only continue to rise. In the last 6 months our budget for gorceries has gone up $40 a month.

Yes I think we will see a big amount of increase yet. We have to expect a knock on because of the flooding, crops have been spoiled.

The prices here are not too extreme yet, we are coping. But certainly we are feeling the bite.

I've definitely seen a couple prices going up. The one that is making me angry is corn. It started out the season at 4/$1 and its now at 4/$2.88. Every week the "sale" price is more expensive than the last. I really worry about families who were already living on a paper thin margin.

I don't even buy cobs of corn anymore. I can't afford it. And I guarantee it's just going to get worse. but what can we do? We have to eat. So we'll just have to take it from somewhere else.

Going to be hit in fall/winter

I was watching the news this morning and where we'll be hit will be in meats, especially beef and pork, and in dairy products. They're predicting large increases by winter. That's just great since I can barely afford meat now.

I agree that meat is particularly troublesome. The chicken drumsticks used to be (until two months ago) 69c a pound for the natural, no antibiotics stuff. Now it's $1.29-almost double!

I was just talking to somebody earlier today about the consequences of rising prices. It's not just for "human food" anymore either. The friend I was talking to actually has to get rid of their animals because they just cannot afford to feed them anymore. It's truly sad and disappointing.

Yeah, tell me about it Showboat.

These prices are simply getting out of hand, and payment at jobs just does not seem to counteract it enough.

Prices keep rising, but job pay won't rise enough to make up for it.

Such is life, but I don't have to like it.

The meat prices really are getting out of hand. I went to the store to buy ground hamburger meat that used to be half the price than it is now, and I'm still working on the same size paycheck! It's just ridiculous now.

Yes, unfortunately Sheraton there is only so many ways that we can cut corners before it becomes impossible to make ends meet. The only thing to be said for it is that most people in the West eat too much protein, so we can cut back some.

The price of everything is going up so much lately. I had a neighbor just tell me that people have been sneaking into their barn to steal horse and other animal feed its just really sad.

I remember how I used to be able to buy pints of Ben&Jerry's ice cream for about $3 dollars, and now they want something like $4.50 for each one! There still are the occasional discounts or buy one, get one free sales...but still! I just don't get it anymore. Will prices EVER get lower again?

The cost of "people feed" really is high these days. I save money by cutting coupons like my life depends on it. And sadly, sometimes I feel like it does.

Some things have gone way up for us in food while other things are still the same price (at least the same price since it went up 6 months ago!) Six months ago, I was spending $50 to $75 a week for groceries for a 5 member family, now I can't get by the week with out at least $80 and usually $100. Milk doesn't seem to have gone up- it's still $4 a gallon- which is ridiculous.
