Thrown off or knocked off.
Anyone else been there and willing to admit it. It was my second ride. It was at one of those touristy horseback riding places where you don't need to know anything. I should have known I was in trouble when they introduced me to Champ, who from the start had an attitude. Once I was on he took a bite literally out of the butt end of the horse in front of us. It had been raining and the trail was really wet. We were working our way along a row of trees we had to sort of filter through when Champ decided to pick a gap that was wide enough for him but not for me. I reined him in and he stopped and then went anyway. Got dumped right off the back of the horse on my back in a mud hole. I was really cheesed off and Champ and I had a little cheek to jowl chat before I got back on. I told him I was going to ride him and he was going to behave and surprise surprise he did. Knew I was a newbie and needed to earn his respect. The rest of the ride actually went very well.

Thinking back on this I have been tossed off, twice in fact! The first for incorrect riding I had no idea I was like 8 or 10 when it happened, the fall wasn't that hard. The second time the horse had a serious attitude issue and we were told that that horse was not to be ridden to start with. Not bad injuries but my lower back bone didnt feel so hot for about a week.

I've fallen 13 times, been bucked off once, and had my mount lay down with me riding once. As a result I have been kicked in the head, had my heel stepped on, and gotten numerous bruises especially the time I fell off over a jump. No broken bones or anything worse than bruising, but I have always been glad I was trained to wear a helmet and safe clothes to ride in. I'd probably be dead if I wore a bathing suit, no shoes and no helmet.

Important lesson here for anyone. I have a friend who was tossed against a retaining wall. Broke and dislocated her shoulder. If she had not been wearing proper equipment I don't think she would still be among us.

I remember the very first time I got onto a horse I fell off. I did not even mount up, I stepped up to get on and went right off the other side. It was so embarrassing.
And yes I got back on and then fell off on other occassions as well. |

I don't know what you would call it but this reminds me of a friend (who happened to stop by this weekend), he decided to be a cowboy one day and jump atop the horse like they do in the movies.
Horse didnt like the idea, took about 2 steps forward and my buddy with arms and legs spread fell flat on his face. ![]() |

I'm sad to admit that both of those things have happened to me. I was trying to tame a horse that had been brought into our care recently and she threw me off. As for being knocked off, I don't really remember the details because it happened when I was younger

I'm not sure how many times I have fallen already but every fall I took is a lesson on how to properly ride a horse. The hardest fall I ever experienced is when I landed on my wrist and it was so very painful. My hand was in cast for a month.

Never been thrown off, never been knocked off. Fell off several times. I can't really blame the horse for my own clumsiness now can I? Fortunately I've always managed a fairly soft landing. Nothing more than a few bruises for my trouble.
