The Lunge Whip

Never, ever, use the Lunge Whip directly on your horse! The lunge whip is to be used as an extension of your arm to guide your horse, not to abuse your horse..Period! When used correctly, the lunge whip acts as a directive to encourage your horse. Snap it behind your horse and the sound will make him go forward, hold it in front and it will stop your horse. If used along with voice commands your horse will soon learn to listen to your voice and will not need the sound of the whip.

So it is kind of like when a dog owner is using a whistle? I'm not sure how someone could mistake a training tool as a beating tool, but then again, some are always 5 short of a 6 pack right? Can you post a picture of this, I think I know what one is, but I want to make sure, thanks!

An example of a person using a lung whip to direct a horse, I have inserted a pic in the attachment. It is a very effective tool to make your horse follow directions on where to go. But at the same time as Remark said, it will be abusing the horse if you use it to whip the horse.
