Rock Management

Especially with riding rings that haven't had surfacing put down (or not enough to prevent rocks from popping up) it important to periodically groom the ring to keep the surface fairly even and rock free. How do some of you keep the rocks from taking over?

My papa used to have us kids go and pick up all sizable rocks that we could find. I don't know how anyone else does it.

We use rakes-large ish, round ones and we sweep with those. It's pretty effective at getting them down to pretty small ones. I like the idea of putting the kids to work though

We've definitely had the kids help out before lessons in the summer when we had them there most of the day anyway. We also used to have them pull the drag we used (chainlink fence with a weight)

Yep, child labor is pretty effective, lol! I like the idea of using one of those large rakes. Did you use the long floppy tynes or the short ones?

That was an intriguing subject line

I came in wondering what Rock (star) management had to do with horses...lol. To the last poster, the floppy tined rakes won't work well for dealing with rocks as there is too much give in them. Try a steel tined regular rake instead.
