Reporting Cruelty

To whom should you report suspected neglect or abuse of a horse? For any other animal I would have said the ASPCA but they seem to deal mainly with smaller animals. Is there something more suited to equines?

The SPCA is just fine to report any animal abuse to. While your local SPCA may not deal with horses to adopt out they are more than qualified to inspect and deal with horse abuse, and network somewhere safe to put a seized horse. You can also contact your local police department for the animal control officer. There are also rescues that have more specific places and contacts that could help if you do a google search.

The SPCA deals with all animals, not just smaller ones. Even cattle and such. Many don't have the space to house the seized animals on the SPCA grounds, but foster them out instead.

I think there are other local places but the SPCA is used the most. In my community even if we call the SPCA for someone (no matter what type of animal) we still need to contact the county about it too, no idea why though you would think the SPCA would file a report or something.

My sister confronted the individual who pleaded poverty. Ownership was signed over to her to care for with our two horses, so he will have company as well as care.

I am not sure whether the SPCA was involved, but I am guessing not (though I did advise my sister on such).
