Racing Injuries?

Can anyone please tell me more about the injuries horses can get from racing? I know they can break legs, but I was also told that when they finish the race their heads are held high so that they don't bleed through their nostrils. Anyone know?

The bleeding nostril thing isn't as scary as it sounds and is from broken capillaries from their blood going so fast and the nose skin being relatively thin, if I recall correctly. Broken legs, abrasions, etc from bad starts in the gates. Some horses have hit their heads on the top of the starting gates. I'm sure there are plenty more, but I tend to not watch much racing.
