PMU Rescues

So I was talking to a friend yesterday and she was looking into adopting a PMU foal after her leased mare was sold. In helping her track down a local rescue we came across alot of nice sites, but one struck me as superior due to the search features. I thought I'd share it as PMU horses are a great mount for many pleasure riders and even for competitors if you're willing to put some time into training and getting the horse to you. Lots of nice drafts and draft crosses in an amazing array of colors. The cruelty some of these animals are rescued from is simply disheartening. So if some of you are looking for a nice horse perhaps rescuing one is a viable answer.

I think this is a great resource. We have a horse for our daugther, we might be looking into getting another, as some friends are moving and can not take the horse with them.

But me and my wife have been talking over the last couple of days on how can we support organizations that are helping these abandoned and at times tortured horses. We would like to put in both financial help and our time, and we are currently looking in our area for any organizations.

But yes it is better to get a horse that needs some help, if you are the right person for the task.

There are quite a few rescue transports that truck them out of Canada usually. I know last year I found one near me that takes up a large livestock transport truck and brings a load to VT then goes back up and gets one for further down further south. I fell in love with the beautiful colors and unusual crosses. I'm a sucker for a draft horse in any combination.

We watch those animal rescue shows on tv. I don't know why, they always make me so angry at the stupid people. I just can't understand the mentality of someone that can be intentionally cruel to an animal. Or a child either, but that's a different subject I don't need to get started on.

The people that cause harm out of ignorance or forgetfulness are bad enough, but how can someone intentionally cause pain and harm to any living thing? I really wish they could give out stiffer penalties. But that still doesn't do the animal any good.
