Overnight Camping

My friend was telling me she wants to go on an overnight trip with her horse. The way she described it was like an old fashioned movie. Where you tie the horse up to a tree and sleep under the stars. I don't think it will work like that, and I would be afraid that the horse would be spooked out.
Has anyone ever taking there horse overnight camping?

Yes, my husband and I did this once. We rode out mid-afternoon and once we got to the camping spot tied up the horse, built a campfire, ate and slept out under the stars. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!

I haven't but I don't see why the horse would be spooked. Horses are far more used to being out in nature than we are. Unless there was a threat to the horse, I think it would be fine, and if the horse did become spooked I would assume that there is enough of a reason and want to get out of there.

I think it's a great idea. I've never wilderness camped with horses but I have done it many times on a bicycle. I literally lived in the great outdoors on a bicycle trip for a whole month.

That sounds really fun. I do not really like camping all that much but it always looks so nice on television and movies. I would say go for it. The only thing that really spooks my horses is thunder and lightning.

That sounds like fun. Maybe I'll try it this summer. We have lots of open space. I remember camping with a friend's horse when I was younger. Only we built a little fenced off area in a grove of trees for her.

I agree that this could be a wonderful way to spend the night. Assuming that the horse was well secured, and not in danger of getting close to a camp fire, I see no problem with it.

I just went to dinner with my friend. She is so excited about this. She already has it all planned out, the trails, the camp sight, she can not wait until summer.
