Other people riding your horse

How do you feel about other people riding your horse? Do you let them?

The lady who boards my horse and her daughter (late teens) both ride my horse, that's part of our agreement, and it's fine with me because I don't have as much time to ride her as I'd like to and as she needs. But we also have in our agreement that they are the only ones allowed free access to her, everyone else needs to have permission (and she's never asked me if someone else can ride her). I don't mind, for the most part, but I just want to know my horse isn't going to be hurt by someone taking stupid risks.

I do not mind as long as I know and trust the person, and as long as I know that my horse is comfortable with that person. There are some people that my horse just cannot stand, and I won't let them near her.

I am all about letting people ride my horse. I mostly judge whether or not to let someone ride by how my horse reacts to them. If the horse gets fidgety the I let them know today may not be the best day for riding. I try not to be rude but I don't want the horses to be under any distress.

Honestly, I don't feel comfortable letting anyone ride my horse. There are so many things that could happen. If I let someone ride and they fall off am I going to get sued? or if the horse accidentally steps on their foot are they going to hold me responsible for paying for their medical bills?
I would like to think that friends who would ride my horse would never do something like this but you just never know when it comes to money.

I don't let people ride my horse either. Were I to I would have them sign the same forms I did to board at my stable and the ones an instructor would to be held not at fault. Horses are animals and riding is dangerous. Thats the basic facts. I've had friends tell me I'm cruel to make them sign paperwork but I'd rather irritate someone than end up paying for being nice and sharing.

Well said, barnbum. One of my friends ended up paying several hundred dollars of medical bills when she let a neighbor kid ride her horse. Anyway, lesson learned the hard way. Now my friend has everyone sign paperwork saying she cannot be held responsible for an accident and riders will ride at their own risk.
