OT - water heaters

our water heater in our house keeps going out and I was thinking of buying a tankless water heater. Does anyone have one? My hubby thinks we should look into a solar water heater... I don't know which is better for the environment.

This is not really my area of expertise, but my husband really wants to get one of these as well. Basically, the tankless hot water heater uses less energy and saves you money. With a regular hot water tank it is heating water all day even when your not using it. With the tankless it heats the water on demand plus it takes up much less space.

We converted to a tankless model about 2 years ago now. I admit I was skeptical, though my husband assured me they are used solely in Japan. It's great. I've really noticed a difference in our electric bill (about $50). I don't know anything about solar though. What do you do if it's cloudy?

Good question, how will the solar water works if the sun is not shining?

I have a tankless water heater and I recommend it because it is so efficient. But I can't compare the tankless water heater with a water heater that has a tank because I haven't used any of those.
