successful breeding??

I have been wondering for some time, what do you do if a breeding was unsuccessful? I have heard of a guy who killed a foal and personally, I was horrified. I could never kill a foal unless it had to be done, but this guy killed the baby because it didn't have a certain look.

So, what do you do? Also should I report the guy?

Who are you planning on reporting him to? Most places require cruelty to take things into their jurisdiction, and if he put the animal down humanely than they have no say. A person can usually do as they please to some degree.

Most people have different definitions of unsuccessful breedings. Most deal with breedings that don't take not foals that aren't what they planned for. A good breeder will have enough knowledge of genetics to have a realistic idea of what the foal might look like so this wouldn't be a problem. However with backyard breeders who breed less than stellar animals it is often an issue. Most seem to dump them on other people through listings on Craigslist or dreamhorse using creative terms to mask how bad they are.

It wasn't for a humane reason it was because it didn't look the way he thought it should, as I said in my Original Post. This guy is not a professional in animal care, the only reason he has horses is because his daughter likes them.

We can't really have the right to report this guy to the authorities. He does it in his own backyard and he could just tell us, "mind your own business". I know its cruel to kill an innocent animal just because it doesn't come up to the expectation of the owner. But the owner has all the right to do whatever he wanted to do as long as there is no cruelty done to animal, besides killing.

Well, I reported him and he is being charged for animal cruelty. It turns out that he has been doing cruel things to the horses such as whipping. He gets to keep the horses but an agent will have to check in each month.

If only the horse could complain...

Its good to know that the owner was reprimanded already. At least the horse will have more care now than before. I wonder what his daughter does when the owner does cruel things on their horse because it was mentioned that the reason why they have a horse is because the daughter likes horses.

That really didn't answer my question. "I reported him" doesn't give the next person much information on who they could contact for a similar problem. Nor does saying he was charged with animal cruelty because he's been doing other thing tell us what specific act got him in trouble, be it killing a foal or something else. The behavior he got in trouble for ultimately is just as important as who has decided to act on the report. If you could fill in those blanks it would be incredibly helpful.

Tikitowel, thanks for telling me to provide more information. I hadn't really thought about people that might be in similar situations. I reported him to the local police. I wasn't the only one, other people had been lodging complaints against him for quite a while.

Other people to contact is the ASPCA which is who the police called in to help them in the investigation. There were a number of acts that got him in trouble but the one that got him caught was killing the foal. His wife and daughter (who apparently studied horses and knows her stuff.) testified that the foal was in excellent condition. This was backed up by horse experts.

I hope that filled in all the blanks.
