Found this website, thought I would share, might help some of our new people get an idea of just how many breeds there are out there.

Breeds of

On the left hand side of the site, you can scroll down the alphabetized list of tons of horse breeds, good for a quick reference.

I never knew there were breeds of horses - I just thought they were different colors - like how humans have different colored hair...this is quite interesting. Nice find!!

Talking about breeds, I have come across a news once that they have cross bred a llama and a horse. The result was cute, imagine a horse with a long slender neck. It was a small horse, could be called a pony for its size.

Anyway, how do they make new breed of horses?

That is a great resource for looking at breeds of horses, I was aware of some very few, but this has totally blown up my knowledge.

Great share, thanks.

WOW! So many to choose from. How do you know which one you should get? What are some good ones to choose your first horse from? I knew there were different breeds, but I never knew there were so many.

There is also many national associations for horse breeds. For example, the American Quarter Horse Association at http://www.aqha.org which controls the breeding and shows for the Quarter Horse. You submit your paper work to them and they keep track of your show points. You can also research a horse before buying it from the website.

I am not that good with remembering the breeds of dogs, let alone horses. I knew there were different types, but the only ones I can think of now are mustang, minis and icelandics.
