I just love seeing any animal (or human) being born honestly. I don't think that there is anything more beautiful or touching than seeing a new life entering the world and starting to become autonomous. I love babies!

I've seen but not participated
I have been present at a couple of foalings when I was growing up. One was attended by a vet, one was just my grandma and me. The vet did all the work the first time but it was cool to watch. I was a bit grossed out but I was only about 9. The second time was when I was around 12 and my grandma did it by herself as it was the middle of the night and a surprise so the vet couldn't get there. I mostly watched that time, too, but my grandma knew just what to do. She had to reach in and turn the foal but the baby was fine (momma, too).

I remember when I was getting ready to watch my first foaling at my uncle's ranch. I figured it would be messy and gross and I really didn't know if I would have the stomach for it. My main concern was getting sick in front of my cousins. I was only 10 years old. It was definitely messy but there was nothing gross about it at all. It was the most beautiful thing I had seen. I had never seen any animal or human born before.

My mare, Lilly, is in foal now. She will be delivering probably by the end of the month. I am looking forward to this as it will be my first time to observe the foaling process. We are going to try to have a vet on hand, just in case. I will upload pictures of our new little one as soon as she/he arrives.

I have seen baby goats delivered on several occasions, but have never had the opportunity to see a horse birth. I would like to see this one day because it is such a blessing to see a new life come into the world.
