Naming Your Horse

When you guys all choose a name for your horse, how do you choose it? I have heard some of the silliest names given to horses and it always seems a shame-but even more so for a horse. Calling a majestic animal like that something like Fifi or Trixi seems insulting.

Most times for the silly names there is a story to go along with it and I love hearing some of the stories. I know naming other pets I have had we do the same thing, I have one named pickel who is a cat.

I really can't say that I use any specific method for choosing a name for my horse. I usually pick a name within the first few minutes to an hour of being with the animal the first time, a name just seems to come to mind that fits.

Hey now, iHorse likes his silly name. well maybe he just likes the carrots we feed him while calling him that. He's got a proper name as well, its just a bit stern sounding for a horse who listens to an ipod. I mean how can you take some of those names seriously like "kiss of a rose" or "snow on cedars"?

Well I never knew that, Buckskin, so thank you. That goes a bit of the way to explaining some of the things that I have heard horses being called at one time or another.

I imagine that with those rules most of the sensible names would be taken already, and it would be hard to think up something that actually meant anything.
