My first horse

I'll be 16 when I get my first horse. I have lots of experience riding horses, but I've never owned one, or taken care of one before. I've been riding at the places that rent horses for years.

What is the best type of horse to start with. What age is best. I'm supposed to be researching and getting this information together to give my parents so they can get me one for my birthday.

I am sure alot of it depends on the maturity level of the person, no matter what age.

Take your time to find a horse. Look for a healthy and sound horse. It is important to find a calm and gentle horse that will be patient with you and help you learn about horses.

My daughter has had great luck with the TWH and an Apaloosa Quarter horse mix. She is 16 also and broke one of her horses on her own. Like they said get a healthy and sound horse. She got a horse just shy of 1 year old and by 2 had had bonded and broke the horse no problem. Make sure to bond and make the horse trust you. Also there is a wealth of information on how to train horses on the internet.
