Mules

Does anyone own any mules? An old man who lived down the road from us when I was a kid had a team of mules he used for when he cut wood. It must have been easy to pull a tree out of the brush to be cut up that way.

I've never owned a mule but I've known a couple. One was used for riding and the other was a petting zoo pet. They can be really smart lovely animals if trained well. I've seen them used for pulling and farming as well but not first hand.

I've actually never been closer than the TV to a mule. That almost seems shameful! Are they friendly animals, since they are often used around children?

Varies just like horses

Growing up near farms, I had friends that had mules. There temperaments can vary just like horses and it also depends on how they were raised and trained. Mules are mainly work animals so often don't get as gentle a treatment as horses tend to - I think that's part of the reason they get a bad rap as being "stubborn" animals.
