Mud

I went out riding with a friend the other day (on one of her horses), and there are lots of big mudholes around right now. How safe is it to ride through a mudhole?

I wouldn't ride through any mudholes that are very wide and of unknown depth. You don't want to get your horse stuck in the mud. Did you ever see the Neverending Story?

Lol, I can't help it-that was my first thought too!

In seriousness I would avoid them because you don't know how deep they are. They could be nicely shallow but you wouldn't know until it's too late, and that's not worth the risk.

Even if the mud isn't deep it could very well get your horse stuck depending on the type and density. You are better off avoiding them at all costs to prevent injusries and other issues.

The other thing is that it could be hiding other dangers too. There could be glass or other objects in the mud to snag your horse or hurt them, leaving an immediately contaminated wound.
