Looking for a horse, where should I go?

I am looking to buy a horse, just for general riding around the fields. It needs to hold up to a 275 pound person. What breed would you recommend? Where could I buy one?

A draft or draft cross would definitely be the way to go. They are also usually really comfy to ride as well, kind of like sitting on a sofa that moves. Clydesdales, Percherons and Belgians are pretty common where I am and people keep crossing them for sporthorses. Depending on where you are you can talk to vets, feedstores and tack shops. There are also plenty of online listing sites.

My experiences are that a draft horse has a great personility. But yes I agree thats the way to go also.Think you will find them a pleasure to work with but are very large so make sure you get a well broke one. Also I would not advise getting one at auction, never know if they have been drugged or what the horse is actually like.
