Lethal White paint foals
Did anyone wlse know about this?
Overo (a paint horse pattern) Lethal White Syndrome is a recessive gene that horses can carry. If a foal is born with two of these genes then they are all white, and their intestine isn't developed so they die after a few days. It's not just overos that carry it. Article |

I was almost crying reading that article. I hadn't heard of it before, but it is just so sad. Oddly it made me think of my own human child at birth when I read it, rather than my horses, but it's just terrible.
It just shows what happens with too much interbreeding. |
