Josting?

Is that what it is called? I have never been to an event but I wonder what type of gear the horses wear to stay protected during these things. Anyone been before?

In jousting the point of the sport isn't to hit the horse, but rather to hit the shield of the rider. A horse could wear breastplates or armour on their chest, head, and the vulnerable side of the neck.

I wonder, during the practices if the riders get carried away at all, if the horse could be injured. I dont think the sticks have pointy ends, but I could be wrong.

There are many ways a horse and rider can be injured in jousting, even in modern times. Lances do break and miss, and they can tear muscles if they get between armor and not all modern knights wear full armor. Horses risk the same issues if lances get out of position.

Jousting even in medieval times was not aimed to hurt the horse. In battle though it was a different story. Pike men carried really long spike meant to stop charging horses in battle. The movie Braveheart shows that rather graphically if you have a stomach for that sort of thing.

It seems like jousting is not meant to hurt the horse, but they may get hurt in the crossfire. I would not even want to risk it, I get nervous whenever I watch them even in movies.
