Joint Stress

I know that when I am running on concrete or tarmac, as opposed to turf or dirt that my joints (knees and hips especially) will soon start to get sore. The impact just doesn't treat them kindly.

What about when horses are on concrete-how much does it stress them?

I figure it causes a good deal of stress on them just like any other. Though we are also built different than a horse too.

I also think that they may get injured by walking them through concrete. But I guess it depends on the horse shoe that they are wearing. Police horses run on concrete but they are still in good shape in running through the city.

The same with our shoes right, we wear rubber shoes for running and leather shoes for formal occasions. I think there are also horse shoes that are made for specific grounds.

I figure the horse would have as much, maybe more joint stress running on concrete. They are much bigger than us so more impact. If you're runnung the horse, it's best to run them on turf. Leave the concrete for walking.

However some horses have to run on concrete or tarmac, as already mentioned because perhaps they are police horses. Their job would put them in that situation.

What kinds of shoes might reduce that stress?
