Frage Is It True?

OK, here's one for you - since I don't actually own a horse and it has unfortunately been years since I have had the opportunity to ride - but is it true, the old adage that says, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" ?

Yup. In fact you can lead the horse to water, ride him into it and he can try to roll but not drink. Just like any other mammal that knows more about whats good for them as opposed to what you think is best for them.

How About That ...

Well, thanks for that info - how about that? I honestly didn't know if that was a myth, like an "old wives' tale" or if there was some truth to it - I guess it's not a myth, then, but it IS a 'mystery' why they won't drink - unless THEY choose to, I guess!

Really? This is certainly interesting, goes to show animals do have a mind of their very own. I never even heard of the phrase. You really do learn something new everyday.

I had thought it was an old tale as well for a long time until a friend told me to take her horse and go try to make it drink. I swear that horse is still laughing at me to this day.

They can definitely refuse to drink even if you're thirsty after a long trail ride. Animals really can be frustrating sometimes. I'm not sure why horses seem to be one of the most stubborn.
