Congressional Hearing Held on Thoroughbred Welfare
On June 19 Congress held a hearing entitled "Breeding, Drugs, and Breakdowns: The State of Thoroughbred Racing and the Welfare of the Thoroughbred Racehorse" and included steroid use, poor breeding practices, and other issues plaguing the industry. Here's hoping they get somewhere and don't just waste time and money.

Thats exactly what I am thinking. So many people dont realize how bad steroid use for animals and its not just horses for racing, there are people and companys that deal with steroid use for plumping up chickens to sell for the market too.

What are they trying to do?
Is this a hearing just for fact finding or are they going to actually work on legislation that regulates the problems? So many Congressional hearings drag on and on for months and then just say "oh, there is a problem here". Then it takes months or even years longer for them to actually do something about the issues.

Steroid use is so prevalent in all sports but at least human athletes have a choice as to whether they take them or not. Horses trust their human owners and trainers to make wise choices for them. Legislature definitely needs to be passed to protect our beloved animals.
