I know the price of hay is up but geesh!

Someone stole 50 bales of special hay from a lady in North Carolina, right out of her barn! The hay was bought from New York because she has two horses that need special hay due to allergies and previous case of foundering. She can't get more until the end of June and doesn't know how the horses will fare, especially the one with allergies as it has respiratory issues with local hay. I knew the price was high for hay but that is absolutely ridiculous that someone would steal it.

That's too bad. I can't believe someone would just go in and steal it in broad daylight. I guess this lady needs to start locking everything up.
It sounds like this family is really going out of their way to care for the horses they have.

Wow, that's terrible! I can't believe some people. It's a sad day when you have to lock your barn, not for fear of someone stealing your horses, no... your feed!

I think that would take some serious planning, and that is really messed up. That is just as bad as someone stealing something from another human with special needs, who does such crap?

Wow, there are some sad, sad people in the world. I would hope given that this made the news that perhaps someone who has some of what she needs, would perhaps step forward and offer her a donation. Otherwise, those poor horses

Something tells me they must know the people well enough to know how to steal that much hay. Its not something you can just stick in your trunk, you know?

I would think if they talked to the local vets to find out who else owns a horse that could benefit from such hay they might find it easy to figure out where it might have gone.

I hope that with it making the news someone who might have seen something, will come forward and report it. These things are too sad and I hope the criminals will be caught.

That is horrible. I wonder if the theives needed that particular kind of feed, or just needed feed and knew she had a lot. Makes you wonder how they knew though!

I don't expect crooks to have a conscious. I honestly doubt that they stole the bales because they were special hay. I think they stole them because they had some chance to plan the theft and make off with 50 bales. That is a lot of hay to just walk off with. I really feel sorry for the horses.

That's really sad. I can't believe someone would do that, let alone be able to pull it off. Maybe they didn't know it was special hay and figured the owner could easily get more.

Even assuming they stole it just because it was hay and not for the special nature of the hay, getting 50 more bales isn't something the average horse owner can just do this far from hay season (at least in the US). Hay supplies are tight anyway and by the end of the season prices are through the roof if you didn't make an agreement ahead of time. You figure at 4-5 dollars per bale she's looking at 200+ for 50 regular bales let alone special hay.
