How much?

I'm about to move to Las Vegas, NV, and I'd like to start taking riding lessons (that is, if they even have horses out there). Could anyone give me a ballpark figure of how much most trainers charge for riding lessons? How much would be too much, etc? thanks a lot.

It would depend a lot on the prestige of the riding school, and whether or not you want private or group lessons. There are many variables-the best thing that you can do is to Google for schools in the area you are moving to and then start calling around.

I'm from Illinois and here the rates can go as cheap as $20 an hour to as high as $65-70 for a private lesson. A lot times it's good to start of as a group because it's cheaper and you learn the basics. But once you decide to take it to the next level that's when you should start the private lessons. Good luck!

I'll probably go with the cheap ones, actually. My main goal isn't really education about riding so much as just wanting to spend time with horses. Ideally I'd love to get a job working with horses. But in Vegas that's out of the question. Way too hot to have an outside job.

$20/hr for a group of 4-5 riders has been the norm since I started riding back in 1991 and was last year when I got back for a couple months to the barn. $30-50/hr for more private lessons.

Depending on your skill level you could possibly work in exchange for riding time or lessons. I've never let working in the sun stop me from earning riding time.

Yes, but have you ever tried working under the Las Vegas sun? heh. When it's over 100* outside the desire to work just kinda melts right outa me.

I went to a riding school once that allowed riding time (not lessons, just riding the horse around their land) in exchange for bringing hay. Anyone heard of this? How much does a bale of hay cost?
