Horses and Cows

Can you put horses and cattle in the same fenced in area or do they need to be seperated? Can any other animals be put with horses?

I have known of people who put horses and cows in the same field. However, I don't know if it is the best thing to do or not. I guess it would depend on the number of each and the temperment of them as well.

Quite common in my area

I've seen many fields with both horses and cows in the same pasture in my area. Generally speaking, I've noticed that the animals tend to segregate themselves though with the cows on one side and the horses on the other.

I think temperament and spacing for all to have enough of shared and their own areas are the top two that come to mind. The last thing you want is all of them bunched up and then tempers start to fly.

Depending on space and animals you could turn out quite a few animals together. I know one summer camp we went to had cows, goats, sheep and ponies together for their petting zoo. They didn't always get along, and any animal with horns should have them shorn close to the head to prevent goring, but it can be done.

As Clip-Clop said it depends on the space. It also depends on the personality of both sets. Is one of the cows or horses territorial? It could be bad if there is even just one cow and one horse that is territorial.

However, i wouldn't put them together if there are calves or foals among them.

I would wonder about the personality of all animals as mentioned in another post I wasn't sure of donkeys and horses would get along. Cows (females) and most horses I have seen have good temperaments so those I would think might do better than a horse and a donkey.
