Horseriding in the Olympics

I see that there is dressage included as one of the Olympic events. I've never really paid attention before now but am recording it now to take a look at later.

Anyone else planning on watching?

I agree when it comes to racing and jumping, as I've heard some pretty bad things about horses dying in races. Buckskin, what are your concerns about the welfare-is it something specific to the Olympics?

There should always be concern in any event for the horse's welfare. The Olympics are no different althought the pressure is probably the highest of the horse shows of the world. There are always people who think less of the horse's health than other factors. The only way to know for sure is to be behind the scenes though as many reports are nothing more than rumors from these events.

I don't think I will watch them (I have to check listings) and we don't have a DVR. I'd love to though.

I wasn't even aware that horses were involved in the Olympics. I think this is a neat idea as long as the horses are cared for in the proper way. I'm going to have to check the listings and see if I have already missed this event.

I would have thought that of all events, the Olympics would be the best cared for horses of all. I agree that the pressure will be higher, but then we have to continue the venue too. Right now even people aren't being taken well care of there, so yes there is no reason to think that horses would be.

Ah yeah, that makes sense. It would be like a human running the sprints when they haven't completely recovered from a sprain, only in the case of a horse it could mean a broken leg, and ultimately being euthanised?

Every show is this way, as is every race and other event which is a competition and not just participated in for the fun of it or the furthering of the sport. I've been to local shows that were more intense than regional ones it all depends on the area. I don't think boycotting watching the events is going to make it go away, and I think they need any support they get. Whens the last time you saw a horse show on basic cable?
