For those of you that keep horses in paddocks for some of the day, how often do you check for weeds? Some of them I know are very toxic to horses (Patterson's curse springs to mind) and easy to identify, but others are harder.

I deal with my own yard work, and I like a clean and weed free lawn. I make sure to the best of my visual ability that there are no weeds present.

Most of the barns I have worked at walked the fences one a week or more often in the summer. We used to take a metal detector out every year just to be on the safe side. You'd be horrified by the things in your horses paddock that get there by chance.

I would never have considered that the paddock needs to be checked for metal debris. I wonder if they do that-I might ask tomorrow. Seems a logical thing to do.

I would check once a week or so. Just take a stroll through the pasture and keep your eyes open for any harmful ones. Find out first which weeds grow in your area. Here there aren't too many types that are harmful.
I, too, have never thought of metal. I do pick up a lot of garbage that people throw out of their cars though. What a nuisance.
