What kind of treats do horses like? I figure bringing a treat to my first riding experience could go a long way to getting the horse comfortable with me. Any suggestions?

I think the healthiesttreat you could give them would be lucerne hay, I've seen particular horses pulling all hte other sorts out of their hay bales and dumping it on the ground just to get to a handful of lucerne. Also apples or carrots are usually liked, but avoid high sugar things.

Horses like sweet: apples, carrots, sugar lumps or commercially prepared treats, etc normally are higher in sugars whether natural or added through molasses or other sweeteners. Baby carrots are a perfect treat as they are already small and easy to eat so the horse doesn't choke. Just beware the orange lips afterwards. ;)
I must be lucky I have never seen a horse with organe lips afterwards, maybe since they were darker colored horses to start with? :D I love giving my aunts some apples, shes all about those more than most other treats.

We give carrots and apples as treats. Not only are they healthy, but chewing them cleans the bite surfaces of the teeth.
