I wonder how many people first get a horse or even more than one then realize all the things they need to have already have stocked up. Is this really something people overlook. What about taking care of them proper. Some of the easiest things can lead to much worse things when your not properly prepared.

People don't estimate what they need to adequately care for a new pet of any type. They are also the ones who are most likely to get rid of the animal once its no longer a puppy/baby or realize how much time, effort and money they require. As far as knowing how to take care of them, its one reason why I hope anyone who sells/gives away an animal always ensures they teach the new owner how to care for it, give them literature and resources and follow up if need be. If all owners/breeders/rescues did this we'd be in a better place.

I have no idea. I stocked up as much as I could but I knew that when the horses came I might need more or other things so I had savings especially for my animals and I still do.

I think that goes the same as with any animal. If you're gonna keep them, you've got to take care of them! In a perfect world, everyone who becomes horse owners does research and gets prepared and has everything already stocked before they bring a horse home. However, we all know there's nothing perfect about our world today. Otherwise, it wouldn't be so common to see poor, underfed horses standing sadly out in the fields of owners who don't know or just don't care how to properly care for them.

I see some people that cant even handle a gold fish and no offense to fish lovers but really thats not as hard a job as one for a pet like a horse or even a cat for that matter, big differences. Its even worse when someone does this over and over again not learning from a previous time.
