Does anyone have a salt lick for their horse? I am wondering if they are a good thing. Do horses know when to stop or do you need to watch them with it? I have one I just don't know do I leave it out for them all the time or do I put it out just on occaasion?

Most people leave them out all the time. I am sure there are horses that lick them excessively, but most I've known never seem to bother them much. They come in all sorts of flavors these days as well.

My aunt has one for her mini girl and only goes to it maybe twice a day that she can see. I dont see any issue unless you run across a horse that really loves it. Maybe you could get one and test it out watching the horse for afew days to make sure yours isnt a salt-a-holic. :)

You should try to get one that is naturally harvested rock salt, from Morocco, or something like that. They contain minerals without being chemically altered. I do have mixed feelings on them - in the wild horses would lick dirt or rocks to get these minerals, should we really be giving them salt? I don't know. My vet says it's fine for them, so I differ to her.
