How many of you have trained your horse is more than one discipline? I mean more than just able to go with two different saddles on, but actually trained to do walk/jog/lope and walk/trot/canter?
ihorse is trained for more than one discipline. We've trained and competed in western and several English disciplines. I really think we've benefited from learning more than one or two.

How long did this take to master? I dont know too much about the training involved but I am hoping to get my hands dirty soon with a friend who is taking some local classes through her vet school mate on the side.
We started from when he was little focusing on good movement instead of a particular pattern. I rode and competed in as many as I could before getting ihorse and having to adapt and perform in different disciplines makes you a good rider instead of a good rider in one discipline.

I have never actually trained horses in different disciplines but I have ridden both English and Western. I also worked in a stables for about six months where they kept retired race horses. I was given the unique opportunity of trying a racing saddle. That gives you a whole different perspective of riding. Everyone should try at least two disciplines, even if it's only once.
