View Full Version : Life Changes

The biggest change that we experienced in our horse's life has been my pregnancy and birth of children. The horse seemed to know before we were even sure that we had a bun in the oven.

Overall the adjustment was fine and we moved on. But I was wondering-is there anyone who has experienced other changes, where the horse didn't get on so well.

I can't say I have experienced anything like that. But I can imagine what a thrill it must be for the horse, it's like he senses his family's well being. Does the horse get along good with your children?

I think you have a pretty smart horse there! I have seen some dogs and cats do the same, but its been very seldom, so many only some animals have this sense?

I think that most animals are able to pick up on changes that we ourselves cannot. Pregnancy causes hormonal changes, which can change the way we smell to the animal. I am sure that is a part of what they pick up on.

There are a few documented cases of mares becoming very difficult to handle when their owner or usual rider was ovulating. Whether it's just a close bond, or the horse smelling the pheromones, I'm not sure.

Buckskin I think this is the same with other animals too so its not that surprising at all. I have seen it happen tons of times with dogs but never a horse.

I'd never noticed an issue when I am ovulating, but that in part could be because I don't know my own cycle well enough to identify those times. Terrible isn't it!
