I'm not sure if anyone has had this issue before but what are some things that new trainers start off doing and its wrong. I have read a great deal online and I don't see many things that conflict, but its the same with teaching any animal right? Mistakes can happen and other than giving up too soon I'm not sure what else there is.

The one thing I can think of is working too fast and forgetting that a green horse is a green horse even while its behaving. People often get lulled by the fact that the horse is "doing well" and relax and find themselves laying flat on their back the next moment.

I think some people tend to get frustrated and not realizing a horse picks up on this sort of thing then stomping off to get away ending up not even bothering anymore. I know two people like this that tried to trained, got disappointed and then gave up and sold their equine.

I think that many new trainers for just about any animal expect overnight results and thats just not always the case. Has to be the first thing that comes to mind for me.

A lot of new trainers look at horses that are fully trained and say, "This is how I want my horse to behave." They expect the results to be immediate. They don't consider that it took weeks, months, sometimes years to develop that horse to the point it is today. Lack of patience is probably the biggest mistake most people make.

I watched a show recently that said within 6-8 months of proper (discipline) training your horse will do much better, but this other woman was counter offering saying that is not nearly enough time. Is that true?

I would think that the worst things of course are those who abuse the horses during training. I've seen some horrible things done to animals in the name of training.
