I was thinking it would be nice to have a family horse. Not really a farm horse, but more of a pet and also maybe to share (show around local fairs and the like).

Is there a certain breed that is best for this? I still have a small child, and worry for her now being near the dog (Lab), so I was thinking maybe in about 5 years or so, we will be planning to get a bigger place. I was wondering what a horse, maybe just enough for us to ride and be a show horse would be. I think I want to get into some community help, kind of like how people takes cats around to hospitals for the people. I am thinking more for children at county fairs and stuff though. :)
