When I drive up to the stable and get out, before I am in site of the horses, I can hear Frannie. I think she knows the sound of my car. But I can definitely tell it's her over the other horses, she's got a very distinctive whinny.

I can too. Each animal has it's own voice, just like humans. Even my cats I can tell by voice. The horse is also more likely to come running to you whereas the others won't.

Oh yes! Just the same as I can tell a person I know is approaching from the sound of their walk-the pattern of footsteps, and the odd scrapes that some people have with a toe dragging or whatever. It's their voice, and yes I think it is distinctive.

I've been able to tell horses by their noises, but not all horses whinny when they are happy to see you. I've ridden horses that never seemed to whinny.

I grew up around horses and for the most part all horses sound the same. I have never been able to differentiate one horses whinny from another's.

I can tell also. It is like a very distinct whinny and I love it. She makes the noise when I go out to see her, or when I am leaving. Also when she is talking to the neighbor horses she makes it.
