I would like to have some of you that own horses already, to share the experiences you had when first bonding with a horse. What happens when its a bad first start. Everyone knows that first impressions make the relationship and everything, so I thinking maybe some of the experienced can help the new ones (like me interested in getting a horse sometime) what humps you had to overcome to get a good bond with a horse, if you don't hit it off right the first time. :)

Just like people horses have personalities. Some are sweet hearts and some are not angles. One of my horses hated my guts from the first moment we met. I got hurt on her when she bucked me off. She didn't really like humans very much and would rather be left alone. I have had other horses that would like to curl up in your lap if they could.

I think just like people, horses don't want you to come on too strong. Most people are taken aback by someone popping right in their face saying "Hi! How are ya? Want to be my friend?" and I think horses are the same way. Taking it slow to start is a good idea.

When I was younger and excited to meet our new horse, I was too much, up in her face. She nipped at me a lot the first couple days. I chilled out though, and so did she.
