Holiday Hats

As the holidays are approaching I normally participate in festive fun shows and have the need for a holiday theme outfit for me and the horse I am riding for parades/drills. One of the best ways to adapt a human costume is to buy a santa hat/stocking cap and cut holes for ears and attach some cording to twine around the throatlatch of the bridle. Elastic can also be used. Half the cost of the ones the tack shop sells so its easier to get everyone matching.

I would think that some of the Santa hats are not wide enough for a horses head, any suggestions on that?

We've done this before, you don't want to pull it down the whole head, just around the outside of the ears. Most hats will fit the width of the ears easily. We normally buy the cheap ones from like Walmart and don't have a problem. If it fits the average adult head it will fit a horse nine times out of ten.

Thats a pretty nice idea there! I could imagine getting a new hat each holiday for like a theme type dress for the horse. Esp. the ones for New Years how much fun would it be to get a horse in one of those and maybe have some glasses attached to the hat too?
