I have watched this movie and I could not believe that a horse could withstand heat like that. Are there still competitions like that wherein the endurance of a horse and its rider is taken to the limits?

I don't know about whether there are still competitions like that (I hope not from an animal-safety point of view), but I can tell you my husband is from the Middle East and there are lots of native horses there. Arabian horses are acclimated to the extreme heat to some extent.
